Bucks celebrates rise in satisfaction scores in the latest National Student Survey

Buckinghamshire New University is once again in the top quartile for higher education institutions in the UK, according to the the latest results in the National Student Survey (NSS), exceeding sector average across most of the questions.

The survey revealed that overall satisfaction at the University has risen by 2% in a year and is above sector average at 83%, with the total number of courses achieving 100% overall satisfaction rising from five to seven, and its Students' Union ranked in the UK’s top 3.

The University is in the top 20 of all UK Universities, when all 27 questions in the survey are averaged, and third among Universities in London and the South-East..


It ranks third in England for the learning opportunities it offers its students; and eighth in the UK for advice it offers its students about their study choices.

Vice-Chancellor, Professor Nick Braisby, said the University was 'hugely proud' to see an improvement.

He said: "Student satisfaction is at the heart of everything we do and I am hugely proud of these results, which are a testament to the work the whole University has done to drive improvement in our NSS performance.

"Bucks New University has a proud history of offering employment-focused and skills-based learning, and we work tirelessly to ensure our students are well-prepared and confident to succeed in their chosen careers.

"Last year we celebrated gains in the National Student Survey and this year we are delighted to not only have maintained those gains but to have improved on them.

"At Bucks we pride ourselves on transforming lives through employment-focused and skills-based education which enables students from all backgrounds to achieve their ambitions. We’re delighted to see from our NSS results that our students recognise the quality we offer."

- Seven courses achieving 100% overall satisfaction: BSc (Hons) Sports Therapy (for the third year running); BA (Hons) Fashion Design (for the second year running); BA (Hons) Audio and Music Production; BA (Hons) Business and Finance; BA (Hons) Marketing; BA (Hons) Sports Development and Coaching; and Foundation Degree (Arts) Early Years Practice.

- In London and the South East, Bucks is in the top 10 for overall satisfaction; the sense of community its students experience; its quality of teaching; satisfaction with assessment and feedback; and the academic support it offers.

- Joint first in the UK for Finance; second for overall satisfaction in Sports Science in London and the South East; and third for overall satisfaction in Mental Health Nursing in the UK.

- Bucks Students’ Union is in the UK’s top 3 in terms of how students perceive the Students’ Union represents their interests.
