Buckinghamshire New University hosts inaugural TAPC guest lecturer symposium
On Wednesday 26 June 2024 Buckinghamshire New University held its first-ever Tactical Athlete Performance Centre (TAPC) guest lecturer symposium.
The TAPC aims to enhance the education, health, and occupational performance of those who work in extremis contexts through the fusion of educational innovation, pragmatic applied research, and the development of mutually beneficial partnerships.
The symposium called for Armed Forces, Emergency Services and First Responder personnel, researchers, scholars and relevant industry professionals to come together and listen to the thoughts, opinions and findings of three world leading subject matter experts within the field of Human Performance Optimisation (HPO).
BNU welcomed special guests Professor Rob Orr (Tactical Research Unit, Bond University Australia), Professor Micheal Matthews (Westpoint Military Academy), and Dr Karl Friedl (U.S. Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine) who led talks on conditioning new trainees, non-cognitive amplifiers of human performance, and performance enhancing supplements and the difference between Olympic medals and military tactical advantage.
Speaking on the symposium, Jonpaul Nevin, Senior Lecturer in Strength and Conditioning and TAPC Programme Director at BNU, said:
“The evening was an outstanding success with all three speakers sharing their knowledge and insights to an audience of just over 100 attendees. This event was kindly sponsored by HPO Technologies a world leading provider of human performance optimisation software for military, government, and major corporations. As a result, all proceeds from ticket sales from the evening are being donated to the British Limbless Ex-Service Men's Association (BLESMA). “
