BNU academic will be advisor on QAA subject benchmark statement

The Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) has appointed Associate Professor Dr Sainey Faye, School of Business and Law, on to the Advisory Board for the Business and Management Subject Benchmark Statement.

Subject Benchmark Statements describe the nature of study and the academic standards expected of graduates in specific subject areas. They show what graduates might reasonably be expected to know, do and understand at the end of their studies.

Dr Faye was announced as a board member by the QAA today (20 January) alongside academics from other universities across the UK who have been appointed to advise on the work.

He said: “It is ever more important that students and staff are provided with practical, relevant, an up-to- date benchmarks that facilitates effective teaching, assessments and the study of business management in HE. The impact of COVID, rapid developments in teaching and learning practices, as well as technology has been profound. It is critical that the needs and interests of key stakeholders are addressed in this period of unprecedented VUCA change. I hope to make a worthwhile contribution to the QAAs Business and Management team and its world class work.”

QAA leads the development of Subject Benchmark Statements and reviews them on a cyclical basis to ensure they serve as a useful resource and can inform a range of purposes - including as reference points in the design, delivery and review of academic courses.

Professor Gavin Brooks, Provost & Deputy Vice-Chancellor, said: “I am delighted that Sainey has been appointed by the QAA to serve on the Advisory Board for the Business and Management Subject Benchmark Statement. This appointment not only recognises Sainey’s standing in the field of Business and Management, but it also helps to demonstrate the strong reputation and excellence that the University has in this academic area.”

Welcoming the new advisory members, Dr Ailsa Crum, QAA’s Director of Membership, Quality Enhancement and Standards, said: “The commitment and dedication of our experienced Advisory Groups helps to ensure that Subject Benchmark Statements continue to be valued by disciplinary communities.

“We are grateful to all of those who have volunteered their time to support this vital activity and look forward to working closely with them in the review of Subject Benchmark Statements this year.”
