Graduation

Graduation

Graduation is a hugely important event in our university calendar, and we are committed to providing you with an opportunity to celebrate your achievements. We know you will be wondering what the Government’s plans for the easing of lockdown means for your graduation.

The Government’s COVID ‘roadmap’ gives hope that mass events may be able resume after 21June but this, of course, is dependent on many different factors, and is subject to potential change.

We have taken all aspects into account and have now reached a decision that we believe will provide the best celebration for you and your guests.

This year we are planning for two sets of Graduation ceremonies: for the Class of 2020 whose ceremonies were postponed last year due to the pandemic, and for this year’s graduates, the Class of 2021.  Please see details below.

Class of 2020

We recently asked you what your preferences were for your ceremony, and also spent recent months gathering information and exploring other options.

Your health and safety is our priority and we are aware that the decisions that individuals and institutions make have a huge impact on how this pandemic progresses. We wanted to keep open the possibility of ceremonies taking place in the summer for as long as possible.

The results of the recent survey were very clear; graduates want to attend a formal face-to-face ceremony where they are able to celebrate with their family and friends. Therefore, we do not want to place serious restrictions on you or the guests you can invite to celebrate your success. We are proud of all our graduates and believe strongly that you deserve an amazing graduation event, and we remain committed to providing you with an opportunity to celebrate your achievements in-person at your own dedicated set of ceremonies for your graduating class.

After considering all COVID-secure options and taking into account the views expressed in the recent survey, we have made the very difficult decision to further postpone the graduation ceremonies due to take place in July 2021, until September 2021.

We are therefore pleased to announce that your Graduation Week is now expected to take place within the week of 6-10 September 2021.

We plan to make all information you will require and ticket booking available in late May. You will be contacted individually and information will also be published on the University website.

We understand this decision may be disappointing for some of you but hope you will still join us to celebrate all you have achieved properly and fully in September.

Class of 2021

In order to ensure that we can include all eligible students, especially those whose later assessment dates are being supported through the No Detriment Policy,

we are pleased to announce that the Graduation week for the class of 2021 (for those who receive their results by 31st August 2021) is now expected to take place within the week of 18-22 October 2021.

We plan to make all information you will require and ticket booking available in late May. You will be contacted individually and information will also be published on the University website.

The Graduation team can be contacted via e-mail graduation@bucks.ac.uk if you have any further questions.
