Our BA (Hons) Security Consultancy is ideal for those who have already have experience working in this area, or are looking to make the move into it, to gain a solid knowledge base to apply to the workplace.
We have strong connections to the security industry and our specialist academics have all had military, police service or commercial experience, and continue to practise today. What will I study?
The course covers topics from an operational, tactical and strategic perspective, that span individual, organisational and societal levels. Blending the academic framework for consultancy practices, with the security needs and requirements for today’s businesses, we’ll cover the key areas of knowledge you need to get ahead in the field.
You’ll delve into everything from threat and risk, and the security of crowded places, to cyber security, terrorism studies and organisational resilience.
You’ll learn to:
- discuss and critically evaluate a wide range of security issues with confidence
- demonstrate critical consideration of the key concepts and theories related to the development, management and marketing of security consultancy businesses
- apply theory to the practice of strategic management of security within organisations
- evaluate arguments, assumptions, abstract concepts and data to make informed judgments, and explain and solve problems.
The programme culminates in you completing a research dissertation or project relating to your workplace or issues that most interest you.

How will I be taught and assessed?
Designed as a distance learning programme, you can study this course alongside your work or other commitments.
You will receive lectures and study materials online supported by our Virtual Learning Environment, as well as being able to interact with your tutors online using video conferencing tools, such as Zoom, Teams, or Signal, as well as discussion boards. We also provide off campus access to library services, so you can borrow books from the virtual library and access peer reviewed journals as well as access to wider material via our interlibrary loan service.
You will be assessment by a variety of methods, including:
- case studies
- essays
- report writing
- presentations
- dissertation.
What are the course entry requirements?
Applicants should have a relevant foundation degree and/or appropriate experience and industry qualifications.
As the programme uses ICT resources to deliver and assess the course, students should be competent in the use of applications such as Windows and MS Office.
All applicants will be interviewed to ensure that they are capable of study at degree level.
Students who hold the following qualifications will be able to accredit prior learning:
- Anubis Certified Security Consultant (CSC)
- Security Institute Diploma
- ASIS International Physical Security Professional (PSP)
- BCI Diploma.
