The MSc Organisational Resilience is designed to provide those working in resilience roles, such as risk managers, security, crisis or business continuity managers, an opportunity for advancement to senior positions. What will I study?
Organisational resilience requires, because of the growing inter-relationship and blurred boundaries between the various elements, and the constant development of new risks and the need to mitigate them; the development of organisational and individual capability and knowledge across a range of contributing areas and of the organisational behaviours needed to support them. Therefore, this programme is designed to attract and educate those with a specialist interest in the following areas and sub-disciplines:
- business continuity
- crisis and incident management
- emergency management
- disaster response and recovery
- threat risk and impact perspectives.
All of these components are to some extent complementary and considered to be contributing elements to the understanding and developed capability to devise, plan and manage resilience within organisations. By allowing students to take a holistic approach to the subject matter and to understand the theories that inform it, the course allows them to develop confidence, capability, critical and multi-dimensional thinking at high levels. Current and relevant, the course keeps pace with world developments and the changing dynamics of resilience planning and implementation.
How will I be taught and assessed?
We've designed this course to make our expertise accessible even to those who are unable to attend on-site. Our students are globally dispersed, sometimes with limited access to the internet. We adapt the course to suit each individual, with telephone, video resources or Skype calls to those who can't easily attend in-house sessions.
We provide a high level of support both face-to-face and electronically using our virtual learning environment. Our online learning package helps you make the most of your time, and means you can focus on the issues relevant to your company. It also minimises your time away from your workplace.
Peer group discussion
Those who are able to attend will benefit from a series of two-day workshops, two within each module at High Wycombe Campus. You will meet your fellow students for valuable peer group sharing and discussion. Remote access to these workshops is available for students who are living and working overseas.
Throughout the programme, you will apply current theories, concepts and practices to organisational resilience. We focus on learning that is anchored in reality rather than the sterility of pure theory. We explore real problems and identify innovative solutions that can be applied effectively in a competitive and dynamic work environment.
What are the course entry requirements?
Applicants will normally hold a good honours degree (2:1 or above) or equivalent, although we have a flexible approach to our application process. Relevant career experience will be considered in place of qualifications, for example: the armed forces, police, security industry or in risk management, business continuity, crisis and/or emergency management.

This programme equips you with skills that add value to competitive organisations. On successful completion of this award, students from all backgrounds will find their employment prospects enhanced and their understanding of the multiple facets of Organisational Resilience significantly deepened.
Managers will have gained the requisite knowledge and analytical skills to enable them to perform at higher management levels in their organisations; recent graduates or people employed outside the resilience sector are more likely to be able to obtain employment in relevant industries; and current employees will be better equipped to seek promotion. All graduates will have developed transferable skills that can be used in a wide range of employment roles.
