Why study Dance at Bucks New University?

Why study Dance at Bucks New University?

Hi! I’m Abbie 😊 I am currently starting my third year of the Dance and Performance course (time flies!). However, I must admit that choosing a university for Dance was very difficult so here are just a couple of reasons out of many for why Bucks stood out to me, as well as why I love it more than ever now:

Professional Masterclasses

As dancers, we all look for opportunities to improve our technique and skills, whether its regarding performing, teaching or fitness we all want to be industry-ready.

Bucks offers the opportunity of free professional masterclasses; this immediately caught my eye when I was researching universities as not many include this within their course. After taking part in the Bucks masterclasses, I can say they are a great benefit for students.

Another huge positive is that masterclasses cover a bit of everything, from ballet and Latin to fitness and commercial! Not only are they a whole lot of fun but you also get to engage with professionals and get an insight into the industry through their first-hand experiences. It’s great for my portfolio and it’s completely free!

Jazz focused

Unlike most Dance courses at universities, Bucks primarily focuses on Jazz for their technique instead of contemporary which makes it so much more unique here.  If you’re anything like me who loves Jazz, this is definitely the university for you.

I am personally so glad that I chose Bucks which offers a lot of Jazz as I feel it is so much more interesting and allows you to gain a stronger understanding of technique.

It is especially refreshing if you have studied contemporary in the past and would like a change to something more versatile. I have even had some friends from other universities on dance courses saying how they wish they had jazz classes like we do at Bucks!

Modules and Support

The last few things I would like to mention that makes me love Bucks are the modules and support from teachers.  We cover a range of subject titles, from technique and anatomy to business and teaching, which means this course is suitable for those who want to perform or for those who would rather teach (or both).

My favourite so far has been the psychology and nutrition module as it is fascinating and has taught me a whole different side to dance.

The teachers here at Bucks are also incredibly positive and encouraging, I can honestly say they are the best teachers I’ve ever had.  You can tell they love what they do which makes your time at university feel a lot more comfortable, enjoyable and makes you want to try harder. Also, their general support through the entire two years so far have been excellent.

I honestly can’t imagine being at another university other than Bucks.
