Top tips for open days

Top tips for open days

For many, open days are the first opportunity to visit the university campus and get a real feel for the course you’re applying to. Here are a few top tips to ensure that you’ are getting the most out of your open day:

1. Write down some questions beforehand

During a busy day where you’re taking in a lot of information, it’s easy to forget what you wanted to find out. Writing down your questions can help you remember what you want to ask if it hasn’t been already answered!

2. Ask to go on a campus tour

The best way to explore the university is by having a look around! By doing so, you’ll be able to explore the key facilities and equipment you will be using during your course. This also gives you an opportunity to discover places such as the Student’s Union and on-site gym.

3. Talk to Student Ambassadors

They will know what it’s like to be on your course better than anyone else! Because they’ve gone through the same process as you, they’ll know exactly how you’re feeling and can offer you some of the best advice. They’ll also be able to tell you more about the course and what to expect. Bucks even offers the opportunity to talk to current students online!

4. Take someone with you

Visiting somewhere for the first time can be quite daunting, especially when you’re trying to make a decision about your future. Bringing someone along can be comforting and gives the opportunity for a second opinion. It will allow you to discuss your day with someone who fully understands and can make you feel much more confident about your choice.

5. Take some time to explore the town

If your university is located in a new area, take some time to explore the local shopping centre and restaurants. This will give you a good feel of the social activities you can do outside of uni, and make you more excited about moving to that area!
