My BNU Story: BA (Hons) Interior and Spatial Design

Eryn, a 1st year Interior and Spatial Design student, shared her BNU story with us. From modelmaking and drawing plans on her course to living in halls and making new friends, Eryn has jumped into life here at BNU.

Why did you decide to study at BNU?

I decided to study at BNU due to many reasons. I became very fond of my course leader and the vibe she gave off at interview. She was very welcoming and intrigued with my portfolio, even though it wasn’t to do with her specified area. She also had a lot of experience in Interior Design and Architecture, so I knew she would be a good teacher. I also liked the location of BNU as it isn’t too far away from home (about 2-hour car journey) and it is close to London. The student union amazed me as it offers a lot for students including affordable drinks and food at the SU, free societies, a free bus that runs on Wednesday’s and Friday’s (the most popular nights out at the student union), free entry for events in the student union and many more!

What makes your course right for you?

The Interior and Spatial Design course is right for me because it allows me to use my creative and innovative thinking skills. This course gets you ready for the real working world as soon as possible which is great for me as I am only 19 and don’t have much experience in this area. In year 1 of the Interior and Spatial Design course at BNU, you learn a lot of the basics in Interior Design like; how to draw plans and use different materials for model making, which has been great for me as I had no experience in this field before I joined.

What do you love most about BNU?

What I love most about BNU is that it offers a lot of support across all aspects such as helping with disabilities, mental health, learning difficulties, employability, extra academic help and much more. If you need help with your English to improve your essay writing, there are sessions offered for that. I also always see flyers around BNU advertising part time job opportunities which is great for students.

What do you love most about your course?

I love the model making aspect of my course the most because there are so many things to experiment with such as shape, size, scale and materials. It is also great that BNU lets Interior and Spatial Design students have access to the metal and wood workshops in order to experiment and achieve their best.

What would you say to anyone considering study at BNU?

COME! You will have the best time and get great opportunities here. There is so much support if you need it. Just put yourself out there and enjoy it and you will love it too!

What’s your BNU proud moment?

I have been proud of myself since the very start of joining BNU. I have managed the transition into university life very well from the start. I have gained a lot of independence and maturity since living in halls. I believe I have achieved very well in my course so far. Last, but not least I have made some amazing friends!
