How to make the most out of an open day

How to make the most out of an open day

If you are a prospective student considering university, there are a few things I would suggest you do to get the most out of a BNU Open Day.

Plan your day

To ensure that you get to see all the different aspects of the university, I would suggest you make a plan before arriving to the open day. Have a look at when the different sessions start, as well as when they finish, so that the sessions which you feel are most important are worked into your day.

At BNU, campus and accommodation tours run throughout the day at regular intervals so you can see all of the facilities on offer as well as where you could be living. Here you can access our virtual campus tours from the comfort of your own home! Please note that on our Nursing Open Days at Uxbridge we don’t have any accommodation tours, but you can ask the accommodation staff for more information.

Speak to current students

It is great to speak to students who are currently studying the course which you are interested in as they will know what the course is like and will be able to answer most of the questions you may have. We are normally wearing purple t-shirts or jumpers, so don’t hesitate to chat to us if you have any questions and we will do our best to help you. We have all been in your situation, so we know how hard it can be when looking at universities.

Speak to academics and staff

At Bucks Open Days, we have academics and staff available at subject-specific stands. These staff include lecturers who are on the teaching teams, so they can tell you everything about your chosen course and explain the sort of assignments which you will be doing, as well as showing you some of the spaces where workshops and lectures take place (these are often done in groups at a particular time in the day, so remember to check the timetable).

Join a campus tour

One way of getting to know if Bucks is for you is by looking around the university on a guided tour. During our tours, you will be able to get a feel for the size of the campus as well as to ask the students who are leading the tours any questions you may have.

The areas which we normally cover on a tour are: the library, student services, specialist rooms such as the music studios and the simulation rooms, and more. We try to keep the tours personalised to you depending on the size of the group and what courses people are interested in.

Overall, the most important thing I would suggest you do at a Bucks Open Day is to have fun and speak to the students as we have all been through what you are going through.
