Vic Davies

Biography

Before joining Buckinghamshire New University in 2007, I had taught at the University of Hertfordshire and the University of Westminster on their undergraduate and post graduate marketing courses. I have been a guest lecturer at Middlesex University and external examiner at Buckingham University, Bournemouth University, The University of the Arts and Falmouth University. I was part of the Bucks team that set up and launched The College of Advertising at the University of Business and Technology in Jeddah in Saudi Arabia. My commercial background spans marketing and media communications and  digital technology. I worked for a number of major international advertising agencies and was a director of the Media Business Group, now Mediacom, as well as running my own communications and research company working for major telecommunications companies and government organisations.  

I studied for my BA Hons Degree at the Open University and my Post Graduate Certificate in Education at Greenwich University. My specialist area of interest is marketing and media communications, with a particular interest in how and why people utilise media in their lives. This interest grew out of my time in the advertising and media industries and the work I did planning major marketing campaigns and working with major media owners.

I am a member of Chartered Institute of Marketing, Market Research Society, Academy of Marketing and Fellow of Royal Society of Arts.  

My specialist knowledge has led me to work with major clients such as Nestle, Unilever, IBM, Mercedes, BT, Cable and Wireless, France Telecom and the EU, amongst others. My work in the ad and media industries has allowed me to meet and work with people such as Lord Alan Sugar, Sir Martin Sorrell, Sir Max Hastings, and Dame Carolyn McCall.  I have been a member of numerous industry research committees, including The Broadcast Audience Research Board (BARB) and National Readership Survey, now PAMCO. I have appeared on BBC R4 and breakfast TV, talking on these subjects, as well as writing for Marketing Week, Media Week and Huffington Post. I co-authored  a series of research studies by Institute Of Practitioners In Advertising, entailed  ‘Know The Value Of Media’. This work also saw me project manage a group of Bucks students who collected and helped analyse the data on these studies.

I have two career highlights: seeing our students’ annual final year successful presentations to major agencies and clients and then on graduation day, seeing those same students graduate and meeting their families.
