Biography

Before joining Buckinghamshire New University in 2012, I was working in design practice and have had Senior Lecturer roles at other academic institutions. I have over twenty years’ industry experience, progressing from junior to senior level. This has included working for renowned studios across the UK including Bibliothequè, Esterson Associates, The Team, Northbank Design, Gardiner Richardson and Proctor and Stevenson, as well as freelance design positions.

Prior Senior Lecturer positions have been at The University of Lincoln, Ravensbourne and The University of Teesside. I have also been a Visiting Lecturer at UAL and The University of Hertfordshire.

I studied for my BA Hons BA (Hons) in Graphic Design at Central Saint Martins and for my Postgraduate Learning and Teaching in Higher Education at The University of Teesside.  I am currently studying part-time for a PhD at The Royal College of Art in London in The School of Communication. I am investigating mainstream UK based brand identity designers’ reflexivity in the ideation stage of the design process, in relation to consumer audience experiences.

My industry experience includes creative, strategic, technical and management expertise and my knowledge spans diverse aspects of the creative design process. My industry skills include: project planning and new business; proposal writing; budgeting; commissioning and art direction; research; analysis; and strategy; the generation; development and refinement of ideas; experimental exploration with different processes; materials and media; pitching for prospective projects; client liaison; and negotiation and managing resources including junior staff and teams.

My specialist knowledge has led me work on projects with clients such as V&A, Design Council, Michael Craig Martin, The Barbican, Contemporary Applied Arts, London Sinfonetta, Covent Garden London, Arnolfini Gallery, Arts Council England, Blackwell’s Bookshops, Camberwell College of Art, The Civic Trust, D&AD, Hewlett Packard, HP Labs, London School of Economics, MIMA, NHS, Quality Care Commission and Sage.

I am a fellow of HEA and member of ISTD.
