Dr Sainey Faye

Dr Sainey Faye PhD, FCIM, FHEA

Biography

I am Associate Professor, Education and Professional Practice at Buckinghamshire New University Business School, UK.  I have more than 16 years’ experience working in the UK HE sector, obtaining my BA (Hons) in Business Administration (University of Wales), my MSc in Banking and Finance at Cass Business School (City University) and my PhD at Plymouth University.  I was senior lecturer and programme leader for a range of undergraduate and postgraduate business programmes at Holborn College and Kaplan in UK, involving managing franchised and validated programmes for the various UK universities including Wales, Huddersfield and the West of England.  I championed the student experience, worked closely with stakeholders enabling the development robust and effective programme management, gaining the praise of the QAA and validating institutions. I also worked for the University of Gloucestershire as a PhD supervisor and a visiting fellow with SOAS University of London as an expert on Senegambia.

I then moved to Buckinghamshire New University where I have promoted a closer alignment between the university education and the needs of professional practice and professional bodies such as ICAEW, ACCA, CIMA and IFA.  As the Associate Head of School for Business, Law and Computing, I am the lead academic on partnerships with the School and work with institutions from all over the world, focusing on improving the quality and effectiveness of standards and teaching whilst addressing local needs.  I have supervised a large number of dissertations at Master's and Doctoral level.  I am an external examiner at the University of Sunderland and Regents University London.  

My PhD was on the Corporate Regulation of the Banking Sector in The Gambia. My teaching and research interests focus on Finance, Corporate Governance and Islamic Finance and more recently on the effectiveness of Business education and professional practice from an international perspective, leveraging my extensive experience in the field. I am currently working with GuildHE Research to improve access and participation for Black, Asian and minority ethnic groups in postgraduate research study issued jointly by the Office for Students and Research England.
