Before joining Buckinghamshire New University in 2017, I worked as a CAD engineer at Asset International in Newport and, prior to that, as a Research Assistant at the Ecodesign Centre in Cardiff.
I studied for my BSc (Hons) and MSc in Product Design at Cardiff Metropolitan University and am currently writing my PhD thesis at Bucks New University. My specialist area of interest is Design for Development and User Centred Design. It is interesting because people rarely think of the impact that design has on their lives, when in reality it is impossible to complete any task in our daily routines without encountering or needing some form of it. My focus is on how design can be used as a tool to improve the lives, health and environment of users and vulnerable individuals.
My specialist knowledge has led me to work on multiple European funded research projects including the FP7 LCA 2Go and CycLED projects as well as the H2020 funded WATERSPOUTT project. I have also been successful in acquiring a place in the MedTech SuperConnector programme to enable the development of a medical technology of my design, and in my own time I operate as the CDO for a start up focusing on the development of hydration technologies for elderly dementia patients.
My career highlight is ongoing; since beginning my time at Bucks New University I have had opportunities to develop new products, research across multiple continents and work with excellent lecturers and students in multiple disciplines.
