Biography

Before joining Buckinghamshire New University in 2018, I have enjoyed a varied career spanning the international sphere, from Malta to Japan. Notwithstanding the late diagnoses of dyslexia within my second year of undergraduate university study, I enjoy tackling challenges head on and believe there is always a workable solution.

Having worked within the banking, hospitality, retail and education sectors, my highlights have included: being the first dedicated Training and Development Manager within the newly restructured HR department at Malta’s leading College – MCAST, where in addition to recruiting and overseeing a dedicated training team I was personally tasked with the creation and development of new T&D functions, along with implementing new policies, practices, and relevant training and support for all employees at the College; and working as a consultant within the areas of HR and Marketing in the UK, Malta and Japan, focusing on academic and non-academic staff training, employee induction, performance management and corporate branding.

Academically, I have enjoyed studying around the UK and internationally also. I graduated from Liverpool’s John Moores University in 2007 where I studied BA (Hons) International Business and Japanese, which included a 1-year international study placement in Hokusei Gakuen University, Sapporo, Japan. I graduated with an MA in HRM from the University of the West of England, Bristol, in 2008, and an MSc in Research Methods from the University of the West of Scotland, Paisley, in 2011. I successfully completed a PgC and Apprenticeship in Academic Practice in 2020 and am conducting preliminary research for a PhD in Corporate Psychopathy and Discrimination: An investigation into the glass ceiling of female leadership.

Through my various studies, I have been awarded membership of the Chartered Institute for Personnel and Development (2008), and Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (2020). I am also Strength Scope accredited (2018).
