Penny Bradshaw

Biography

I joined Buckinghamshire New University in early 2022, firstly as an associate lecturer but quickly transitioning into a full time post lecturing in Human Resource Management – quite different from my first brush with Academia when I graduated from the University of Exeter with a degree in Archaeology with Medieval History!

I have enjoyed a varied career, starting with a large firm of Chartered Accountants in London, and a decade of running a small hospitality business. I then moved to the Civil Service, working as a Technical Tax Inspector and a People and Operations Manager, in HMRC’s Anti Avoidance Group and then the MOD. My career highlight so far has been to successfully prosecute a well known television personality for tax avoidance!

After I left the Civil Service I took up the post of Head of Human Resources and Volunteering at a Buckinghamshire based Hospice Charity just before the start of the Covid Pandemic.

I studied for my MA in HRM at Buckinghamshire New University and my specialist areas of interest and research are employee engagement, inclusion and performance management, particularly in the Not for Profit Sector. I find the study of employee motivation in the absence of high monetary award particularly fascinating. I am also a member of CIPD.
