Biography

I joined Buckinghamshire New University in December 2021. Previously I was a lecturer in Scenography and Event Design at the University of Kent, and a visiting lecturer at UCA on their MBA Creative Industries Management course.

I have an MA in Theatre Design from Bristol Old Vic Theatre School , and I gained a BA in Furniture Design from Leeds School of Art. After being awarded an Arts Council Design Bursary I went on to study model design and model-making at The Royal Opera House (Model Room) at Covent Garden. I am particularly interested in stage and costume design for opera and musical theatre, and currently sit on the Artistic Advisory Board of the Helios Collective, an award-winning opera company that has toured nationally and internationally to leading opera venues including Copenhagen Opera Festival, St. Petersburg Philharmonia, and Buxton Festival.

Within the UK, I have designed productions for The Royal Court Theatre, Plymouth & Windsor Theatre Royals, The Warehouse Theatre, The Actors Theatre Company, Royal Academy of Music, Royal College of Music amongst others. My transferable skills have taken me down some fascinating creative paths including designing exhibitions for the Natural History Museum, Churchill Museum, HMS Belfast, and the Fries Museum, Netherlands. Whilst my experience as Head of Design for the Tussauds Group in the 90s, gave me the opportunity to work on the design development of a number of leading visitor attractions including Chessington World of Adventures, Warwick Castle, and Thorpe Park.
