Biography

Before I joined Buckinghamshire New University in 2022, I have spent over 35 years as a software developer, systems implementation and security consultant across multiple industries and sectors. Much of my career has involved the development and deployment of numerous Artificial Intelligence and Information Security systems.

I studied for my degree in Computing and Artificial Intelligence at The University of Sussex and my specialist areas of interest/research are Software Engineering and Artificial Intelligence. I find both fascinating as, while they both have long histories, they both continue to develop at pace with new innovations, capabilities and ways of working which can transform the way we live and work. It’s a voyage of discovery, posing interesting questions like how can we work and collaborate more effectively, what is consciousness, and how will these emerging technologies impact society at large?

I am an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Authority (AFHEA).

My specialist knowledge has led me to work with businesses such as British Telecom, Ford Motor Company, Renault F1, Oracle, GlaxoSmithKline, Vodafone, AstraZeneca, BP, JD Williams, and numerous financial organisations, as well as running my own software consulting business.

Projects have included international network traffic management, computer aided manufacturing cost estimation, knowledge management and artificial intelligence systems for customer service, information security solutions to protect organisations from copyright infringement and intellectual property theft, online streaming services and mobile app development.

My career highlight has been leading the development and delivery of customer service systems driven by artificial intelligence, which has provided numerous opportunities for national and international travel. It is now my privilege and pleasure to share my experience and knowledge at Buckinghamshire New University.
