Biography

I am part of the School of Health and Social Care Professions' leadership team and I am responsible for establishing and leading the physiotherapy suite of programmes. My teaching portfolio includes research and Evidence-Based Practice in healthcare, neurosciences and long-term conditions – all at post-graduate level.

Before joining Buckinghamshire New University in 2020, I had worked at three other higher education institutions, as an assistant professor of physiotherapy at Coventry University, programme director for the MSc Physiotherapy pre-registration course at St Mary’s University, and a senior physiotherapy lecturer at the London South Banks University.

I studied for my PhD in Healthcare at Oxford Brookes University and my specialist area of research is physical activity. My primary research focus is physical activity amongst individuals with disabilities, and socially disadvantaged people, particularly those from ethnic minority groups. I also have an interest in diversity and inclusion. I am currently working alongside other academics looking to enhance awareness and understanding of implicit racial bias and its impact on pre-registration student supervision. My current physical activity research centres on physical activity behaviours of adults with intellectual disabilities and understanding sedentary behaviours of older adults.

I am a member of the chartered society of physiotherapists, and I am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council.

I have several years of experience managing physiotherapy clients in various settings, including acute, rehabilitation, and community environment. I have also worked in different countries such as in Nigeria for four years, Seychelles for two years, but for the last 21 years, in the UK. As a clinical physiotherapist, I was committed to improving physical activity across various client groups. I set up and managed exercise classes in a variety of individuals, including those at risk of falls, neurological patients, and adults with intellectual disabilities.

One of my career highlights to date is attaining a Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy.
