Dr Carolyn Crouchman

Before joining Buckinghamshire New University in 2012, I held roles in both higher education and at senior clinical and strategic level in the NHS across the UK. My specialist areas of interest are urgent and emergency care and leadership & coaching.

My current research focus is in urgent and emergency care, qualitative methodologies and research ethics. My publication record includes RCNi podcast ‘Doing the right thing in a climate of anxiety’ in December 2020, surrounding my research about the ‘off duty’ emergency response.

My specialist background has led me to work with a variety of organisations such as The British Red Cross, RCN, and the Darzi Fellowship Programme, on projects such as First Aid in schools and leadership coaching.

Recent career highlights include winning the RCN & Belfast City Council Award in 2016 for services during ‘The Troubles’ and, also in 2016, The Guardian Teaching Excellence Award in Higher Education.
