Andy Imrie

Biography

Before joining Buckinghamshire New University in 2019, I was working as a lecturer at LCC and before that ran my own ad agency. I have bookended my career by studying for my copywriting diploma at Watford Art College at 20 and recently completing my PGCE at UAL.

My specialist areas of interest, then and now, are advertising, copywriting, communications and strategy. I find it interesting to see how the field has changed throughout my 30-year career.

I am a member of D and Ad, FHEA and an advertising clique of lectures and professor called Cache.

In my time in the business I’ve worked in and run creative agencies, international agencies and specialist agencies. In that time, I have set up agencies of my own, one a specialised travel agency where I worked with many big companies including Haven Holidays.

In my time I have worked with Whitbread, B & Q, Peugeot, Citroen, Tesco’s, Vauxhall, Disney, Cadbury and Nestle, to name a few. And on various projects I have been lucky enough to work with famous people both alive and sadly no longer with us, such as Ridley Scott, Malcolm Maclaren, Benny Hill, Les Dawson, Bill Oddie, Michael York, Andrew Lincoln, Brian Clough, Hugh Lawrie, Rik Mayall, Bryan Brown, and Ian Holm. Memorably, in a commercial for Kleenex shot by celebrity film maker, Rankin, I made Bob Geldof laugh, Baby Spice angry and Tom Hardy cry.

My greatest accolade to date is, despite being over 35, still being relevant in today’s ad business.
