Playing sports at Bucks

Bucks Students’ Union is active in a range of sports. We recognise that getting involved in sports is not just good for your physical health but opens up new friendship groups too. If you are already a keen sports player, you could try out for the University team, or you can try something totally new; whatever your standard our squads will welcome you to train.

We have over 40 different teams in nearly 20 different disciplines from football to snowboarding there is something for everyone. If you currently play in a more ‘unusual’ sport you can contact our Student Activities Coordinator who can help you to find out if you can compete and represent Bucks whilst you are here.

Melissa Caesar said, “I think the whole university experience has been great, especially as I came later on in life as well. I grew up a bit. There were so many age groups and played in the sports teams as well so I was basically running around with the youngsters!  I was captain of the netball team for a year and a half. We had a lovely group of girls and it was great being part of it was very social.”

Ben Wade said, “I played American football at the university and I got into the trials for the England team, I didn’t quite make it but it was a really good experience! I also did the ‘full monty’ for the team fundraiser – that was a bit of an eye opener, but it was good!!”

Jonathan Berwick said, “The first year was quite intimidating you have to learn a new set of rules, new friends, new rugby players – it is a transition period and you change quite a lot. Towards the end of the first year I came to really love this place, love the friends, my teammates are like my best friends now and you have some of your best and worst times of your life at uni! The social aspects were always enjoyable. I played for the University’s first and second rugby teams whilst I was here and when I got into it I became quite passionate. In the third year our team got into the cup final and that really changed things and made life here even more enjoyable.”

At Bucks, many sport, fitness and recreational activities are free to participate in - our Big Deal has removed barriers relating to the cost of participating in sport and recreational activities and the SU pays for your club affiliation, insurance, travel to away fixtures as well as essential kit, equipment and coaching. Please note that gym membership is not included within the Big Deal.

If you are interested in joining a sports team or seeing what is available, you can see more information at bucksstudent.com/sports or pop into the Students’ Union office to speak to one of the team.
