Student representation

Student Rep logo
Representation is the core function of the Students' Union (SU). It is the reason why we were formed and why we still exist today. In the last few years the SU has invested heavily in academic representation and campaigns to ensure it is given the support it demands. In 2009 the SU launched its Education Campaign aimed at improving the academic experience of our members. This document was followed by our 2010 Student Written Submission to the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) which made further demands of the University. We would encourage you to read both documents and find out what we are campaigning to change.

Recently we have also employed two Student Engagement Coordinators to support the day to day operation of our Student Rep System. Their appointment means that reps now have dedicated staff support to raise concerns with and to receive advice and guidance from.

In 2011 the SU will be campaigning against course closures, electronic attendance monitoring, and further job losses at the institution. We will also be campaigning for the introduction of more work placement opportunities for students, improved access to personal development planning and a better deal for international students. If you have views on what we should campaign on please contact us at union@bucks.ac.uk and if you want to become more active then please consider becoming a Student Rep, more information and resources for which can be found on our website bucksstudent.com.

Student Reps take forward a collective view of their fellow students and work to achieve change with the support of the Students’ Union. This is because Reps are best placed to make both the SU and the University aware of what students really want and make sure students are kept well informed about what is going on. As a student you have rights and the Student Rep System is designed to give you a voice to represent students’ needs.

Student Reps' views are vital to the student body, especially as the amount you pay to come here is increasing and the quality of education and experience you have at university is of such importance. It’s your comments that we want, it’s you who can interact best with students from your course and find out what issues they are facing. You will be vital to the running of the SU and your voice is crucial.

What you say can make change at all levels of university life. You will never have a better opportunity to change the way the University works and remember, we are here to help and assist you at all times and we urge you to use us to make that change happen.
