The University manages around 450 bed spaces under the Head Tenancy Scheme (HTS) across High Wycombe. HTS properties are houses rented from private individuals or companies and are managed by the University, which means the University acts as the students’ landlord. Most often the houses are family-type homes or purpose built flats; properties are well maintained and inspected regularly by the Accommodation Service.
If you prefer to live in a house, live within 25 miles of the University or are not in your first year of study, you will be able to come along to one of our ‘Meet and Greet’ days where you will be able to form a group and choose a house from those available.
If you would like to see an example HTS property, please see our
HTS video tour here.
Houses are let under joint tenancies and the larger ones under single tenancies, on a year to year basis. By accepting a place in a HTS property, you are accepting and are subject to the University disciplinary procedures.
Parking availability depends on the individual property, often road side parking is available, but you may need to apply to the district council for a parking permit, please note that there is no parking at on campus.
The cost of renting HTS properties varies greatly, depending on the location, size and quality of the individual property. Please find copies of previous sample HTS tenancy agreements below:
This scheme is self-financing, as rent has to be paid to owners for properties. For this reason the terms of the contract are strictly adhered to and no exceptions are allowed. Therefore you should be sure that you are happy to fulfil the 44 week contract.
The Head Tenancy Scheme Residential Guide 2011/12 will also give you useful information if you are considering this type of accommodation.
Della Harrison, “Although I lived locally I decided to live in a student house in High Wycombe as the rent was quite reasonable. It meant I was closer to the University which makes a difference because it propels you to be a bit more involved. I could have lived at home and travelled in but I wanted to be closer to the University really.
The Accommodation Office were really good as I left finding accommodation to the last minute! I asked them if they had any names of people looking for extra housemates. They had a list of rooms still available, and I found somewhere quite quickly, I had a look around and decided to go for it!”
Ryan Molyneux: “I am about to move into High Wycombe in a Head Tenancy Scheme house organised by the university. We had a really interesting meet and greet day and found a group. I always felt like at the university all the bases were covered. If you were reading something and you had concerns, the next line will say something reassuring; it made me feel like everything was going to be alright.
The meet and greet day was really good, at the start you are panicking thinking about who you are going to live with but it definitely helped me a lot!”
