How we can help

One-to-one tutorials and small groups
A great deal of our work is done via face-to-face tutorials in which you will work on a personal, one-to-one basis with a member of our team who will be able to tailor support to your specific needs. We also work with small groups, so if you find that you and your classmates are facing similar challenges in your studies, come and see us and get help together!

Workshops and lectures
Throughout the academic year, we arrange workshops and lectures on specific subjects, such as evidence-based writing and referencing, preparing and planning for dissertations, effective use of software tools in your studies and writing, how to get the best out of revision and exams, etc. Some of these are tailored to the needs of students on specific courses and are often arranged in collaboration with subject lecturers and module leaders. However, others are useful for all students, whatever their course and specialism, so keep an eye out for notices and information about the range of support sessions available through the year.

Using technology to support students
If you are unable to come in to see us, we can support you remotely by telephone, email and WebEx. WebEx is a web-based application that allows us to use video and audio conferencing and document sharing technology so we can work with you online in the same way we would if we were you meeting face-to-face. WebEx meetings can also be recorded so you can use them and refer to them again and again, long after the original meeting.

Hitting the ground running: Headstart and startonline
Every year, we offer a number of pre-sessional courses to help new undergraduate students manage the transition into Higher Education, guide them towards academic success and help them get the most from their time at Bucks. For further details, please see pre-sessional academic skills courses.
