Learning Development Unit

LDU - graduation hat throwing
The Learning Development Unit (LDU) is the learning and academic development advice centre for all students at the university. We work with students who are keen to develop their academic abilities and improve their grades, whatever their course, year, or ability level.

Much of our support is given in one-to-one tutorials, so we can tailor our input to the specific needs of individual students. We also work with small groups and run workshops and often team teach with subject-teaching staff during module sessions.

What can we do for you?
We can help you get the most from your learning in a variety of ways: we can advise you on effective note-making strategies; support you in developing your research skills and evidence-based academic writing (including referencing): improve your critical thinking; and help you to get the most from the feedback on your assignments.

The LDU also offers support in numeracy, financial and statistical skills; accessing and using online and other technological resources effectively in your learning; and can advise you on effective time and task management strategies. We also have expertise in supporting students whose first language is not English.

As well as working closely with current students, the LDU provides a range of support and development opportunities to students who are about to start their studies at Bucks in the form of face-to-face campus-based pre-sessional courses and online social networking environments and activities. For more information, please see our pre-sessional academic skills courses.

Where can you find us?
On the High Wycombe campus, the LDU is based in room G3.06, the Gateway building. At Uxbridge, we are on the third floor in room 3.01.

To get in touch, or to make an appointment at either campus, e-mail us via ldu@bucks.ac.uk or phone on 01494 603070. Alternatively, drop by one of our offices and sign-up on the appointment sheets outside. If someone is available, it might even be possible to see you straight away!

You may also wish to contact us via the learning development community page.
