Placements and work experience

A placement is a period of temporary employment, and recognised as part of a student’s course. Your organisation gains from adding an enthusiastic and well educated person to your workforce for a year. The University will monitor their progress, while you will be expected to help with giving the student on the job training and writing a written project report.

There is no such thing as typical work experience, and roles will vary from company to company, reflecting the needs of your organisation and what the student has to offer. Positions may be full-time for a fixed amount of weeks or months, or part-time. You may keep the student in one area, or move them around a number of different departments. Work may be paid or unpaid, but we would hope the student will gain valuable experience that will help them prepare for employment after graduation.

If you have either placement or work experience opportunities within your company that you wish to advertise, please visit the Employers Vacancy Service section of our website for further information.
