The Human Performance Laboratory (HPL) is equipped for assessing the function and performance of a wide range of human physiological, biomechanical and psychological parameters. All equipment and assessment techniques are carried out with due regard for calibration, validity and reliability. Exercise testing and other measurements are used in accordance with appropriate protocols and adhere to safety considerations.
Sports science support services are provided to any team or individual that may benefit from objective performance assessments, advice on appropriate training methods and preparation for competition, nutritional and dietary analysis or sports psychology support. Along with many other facilities within the

Schools & colleges
We provide the opportunity for schools to visit the HPL for educational and practical lab sessions. Each school visit is tailored to suit your individual requirements and includes opportunities to support and enhance the learning experience for the GCSE, A-level or BTEC PE curriculum.
A popular session that many schools like to run is the Physiology Session, outlining the main areas of physiological testing which takes place in the lab (VO2max tests, anaerobic fitness testing and body composition assessment). This is a practical session where students will have the opportunity to act as 'subjects' in the exercise tests.
