Nursing at Bucks
Bucks New University was ranked in the top 10 UK universities for Nursing, and was the only university in London to be in the top 10 (
The Telegraph, 2011) .
We offer two routes into nursing depending on your circumstances:
BSc (Hons) Nursing (Adult, Children’s or Mental Health)
Postgraduate Diploma Nursing (Adult, Children’s or Mental Health)
There are many reasons why Bucks is a fantastic place to study for your degree:
Locality
The Faculty’s pre-qualifying nursing programme is based in the vibrant West London town of Uxbridge, offering you an exciting student experience in specially adapted facilities. Our placements are easily accessible via public transport and are located in close proximity to the campus.
Placements
We offer a variety of clinical placements in a range of settings across West London, including:
• College Healthcare NHS Trust – Hammersmith Hospital and Charing Cross Hospital
• Ealing Hospital NHS Trust
• Hillingdon Hospital Foundation Trust
• Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore
• West Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust
• West London Mental Health NHS Trust
• Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Foundation Trust.
Student support whilst on placement
We’re renowned for the support we offer our students whilst they undertake clinical experience. Members of the teaching staff from Bucks are assigned to each clinical area to support students when they are out in practice. Lecturers, in partnership with mentors, visit clinical areas once a week. Since you spend 50 per cent of your time in placement, this support will be integral to your success.
Reputation and quality
Our nursing students are highly respected within the Trusts and clinical areas in which we work. Recent rankings from NHS London have placed us amongst the top three universities in London for nursing since 2009 (when the rankings began), highlighting that there is no better place to start your nursing career than at Bucks New University.
Employability
We have a high rate of employability. In a recent survey, 93 per cent of our graduates were employed as a registered nurse. 57 per cent found employment with the London NHS Trusts that we work in partnership with, 24 per cent work with other NHS Trusts throughout the country and 12 per cent work with a private healthcare provider.
But above all this, we are all working together in a caring, team-focused environment with a passion for what we do.
