Water consumption reduction

Water consumption within Bucks New University has been reduced from an annual figure of over 80,000m3 in 2006 to just under 34,000m3 in 2009/10.

This has been achieved by the disposal of sites with poor leaking water infrastructures, utilising percussion taps and systemisers to toilet areas and leak detection, and sub-metering of systems. This places Bucks New University within the top 20 universities in the higher education sector with regards to water consumption (m3 / FTE student).

Free mains filtered and cooled water is available throughout the University to encourage students to use less purchased bottled water. Bottled water dispensers, once prevalent throughout the University, have been removed from all buildings. Water production creates CO2 and hence saving on water consumption reduces carbon footprint.
