Through campus consolidation, Bucks New University reduced its total non-residential estate by over 17,000m3, or 23%. This has enabled significant savings by removing duplication of facilities and reducing energy and operational costs.
In addition, annual space audits monitor the operational performance of space-use against planned timetables, and regular reports are submitted to the University’s Senior Management Team (SMT).
The proportion of centrally timetabled space is increasing within the University, with non-centrally timetabled space currently under evaluation.
Commercial letting of space not timetabled for University use is on the increase. Recent commercial activity includes the hire of facilities to film-making production crews, and the hosting of high profile events such as the 2010 Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Awards for architectural excellence, as well as local business and public authority sustainability workshops.
