Carbon Trust standard

Bucks New University has achieved the Carbon Trust Standard in recognition of measuring, managing and reducing our carbon emissions.

The University achieved a five per cent reduction in carbon footprint for the 2010-11 academic year, based on our average footprint for the previous two years. It is great recognition for our achievements to date and demonstrates our commitment to reducing carbon emissions year on year. With just 41 universities having achieved the standard, it is something that we are proud to tell our students, partners and suppliers.

I would like to thank all members of the Estates Team who contributed to the success of this rigorous external audit. The main project that enabled us to get the Carbon Trust Standard was the campus consolidation programme which included the disposal of old, inefficient sites and the substantial refurbishment and new build at High Wycombe and Uxbridge Campuses.

We are well on our way to achieving our target to reduce CO2 emissions by 50 per cent by 2020 (based on a baseline of 2005 emissions). The Carbon Trust Standard requires us to keep reducing our carbon emissions and to recertify every two years. It means we have to continue the great work to date and all keep reducing our impact on the environment.
