Bucks New University has made significant advancement in recent years with regards to reducing its carbon footprint. From a 2005/6 baseline of 6975 tonnes of CO2 it has reduced its carbon footprint to 4970 tonnes - a reduction of over 2000 tonnes per year, or 29%.
As a result, the University is well on its way to achieving its commitment to reduce carbon emissions by 50% by 2020.
This progress to date is estimated to put the University within the top 50 best ranking universities in England with regards to kg of CO2 emitted per Full Time Equivalent (FTE) student.
In addition to the capital invested in the estate and campus consolidation programme which has enabled this reduction, the University has established an energy and carbon reduction working group which reports to the Sustainability Committee. This group is working with employees and student groups, via energy champions, to further reduce power consumption and hence achieve even greater reduction of the University’s carbon footprint.
