Introduction
This course aims to provide an in-depth
understanding of emerging information and networked technologies
for managing business processes. Key elements of the programme
include the development of analytical skills and effective working
practices to ensure that technologies and systems are closely
aligned with institutional strategies and to create a greater sense
of ownership of solutions among personnel.
Postgraduate courses are thus designed to
raise your technical and strategic awareness. Existing and aspiring
managers can then appreciate how organisations can effectively
utilise and integrate different technologies, processes and
systems.
Course content
This programme will provide you with the
appropriate skills and knowledge to develop, evaluate and implement
e-Business strategies using computer systems and the Internet.
The overall aim of this programme is to provide you with the
appropriate skills and knowledge to develop, evaluate and implement
e-Business strategies using computer systems and the Internet.
There are three strands to the taught part of the programme:
• The Internet – covering network administration, distributed
web based systems and computer security.
• e-Business systems – covering e-business, database information
systems and object orientated analysis and design.
• Core issues – covering project management and research.
On successful completion of the taught part of the programme,
students have the opportunity to apply their acquired knowledge to
their own particular interest area, in the form of the research
dissertation. Alongside the core technical content, students also
develop a range of high level skills applicable to different
contexts. For example, those qualities necessary for employment,
such as the ability to exercise initiative and solve problems,
decision-making in complex situations, taking responsibility for
their own continuing professional development, and communication
skills.
Industrial Context
Postgraduate courses are closely aligned with the research and
knowledge-transfer activities of the School of New Media &
Technologies. These include industrial and business
partnerships spanning a wide spectrum of information-technologies
such as real-time signal processing; audio and image processing;
video-quality assessment; broadcast testing; embedded systems;
business systems; web services; remote-sensing applications for
monitoring natural-resources and biomedical applications.
Delivery
This course is offered in full-time and
part-time mode. In full-time mode, the entire MSc syllabus of
taught and research components is typically completed in 18 months.
Part-time study provides a flexible-delivery mode to suit the needs
of different students, many of whom have significant workplace
commitments. The most common completion period for a part-time
student is three years, although other durations may be possible.
Attendance may be a mixture of afternoons and evenings per week to
allow credits to be accumulated on an individual-module basis to
complete the full MSc award. The intermediate qualifications of
PGCert (postgraduate certificate) and PGDip (postgraduate diploma)
may be awarded after completing four or eight modules
respectively.
Entry requirements
You will normally be expected to hold a good
honours degree in computing or a related subject. Graduates of
other degrees with relevant experience may be accepted, subject to
interview. All appropriate applicants will be offered the
opportunity of an interview and a visit to the campus to discuss
the course in more detail.
If you do not have sufficient TOEFL or IELTS score, why not
