Introduction
The aim of this new programme is to provide students with the
skills and knowledge for engineering web-based applications.
Solutions covered range from lightweight ('low-bandwidth') websites
to advanced multimedia, server-side and extensive markup language
(XML) based utilities.
Problem solving and evaluative approaches are employed
throughout the programme, thereby encouraging capacity for adapting
to the changing technologies and standards of the world wide web.
Postgraduate courses are thus designed at raising your technical
and strategic awareness. Existing and aspiring managers can then
appreciate how organisations can effectively utilise and integrate
different technologies, processes and systems.
Course content
There are three strands to the taught part of the programme:
• web engineering - design, object-oriented concepts and
programming for the web
• core standards and technologies that underpin the internet and
the world wide web
• data description and management - XML solutions and database
technologies
On successful completion of the taught part of the programme,
students have the opportunity to apply their acquired knowledge to
their own particular interest area, via the research
dissertation.
Alongside the core technical content, students also develop a
range of high level skills applicable to different contexts. For
example, those qualities necessary for employment, such as, the
ability to exercise initiative and solve problems, decision-making
in complex situations, taking responsibility for their own
continuing professional development, communication skills.
Industrial context
Postgraduate courses are closely aligned
with the research, scholarship and knowledge-transfer activities of
the School of New Media & Technologies. These include
industrial and business partnerships spanning a wide spectrum of
information-technologies such as Web-based services; business
systems; real-time signal processing; audio and image processing;
video-quality assessment; broadcast testing; embedded systems;
remote-sensing applications and biomedical applications.
Delivery
This course is offered on a full-time basis over 18 months but
there is also the opportunity to study part-time.
The intermediate qualifications of PGCert and PGDip may be
awarded after completing four or eight modules respectively.
Entry Requirements
Applicants will normally be expected
to hold a good honours degree in a related subject. Graduates of
other degrees, or applicants with partial HE qualifications, that
can demonstrate substantial and relevant work experience may be
accepted, subject to interview.
If you do not have sufficient TOEFL or IELTS score, why not
consider our Pre-Master's
