Introduction to Metal Work (Wednesdays)

This short course provides an opportunity not only to become aware of the potential of steel but also to have a practical hands-on experience of working with the material. Within the course, there is scope to allow students to complete simple tasks of their own, providing they fit within the teaching structure.

Schedule

Week 1: Introduction to the workshop and materials; begin marking out and cutting

Week 2: Folding and rolling                                 

Week 3: Introduction to MIG and spot welding

Week 4: Welding practice

Week 5: Introduction to oxyacetylene brazing

Week 6: Brazing practice

Week 7: Aluminum sand casting demonstration

Week 8: Tube bending

Week 9: Practice techniques

Week 10: Self initiated project using skills learnt during the previous weeks

Additional requirements:

Suitable workshop footwear should be worn.

Certificate of attendance
